Chaudhry released from Totogo police station

Update: 12:12PM FIJI Labour Party Leader Mahendra Chaudhry was released from Totogo Police Station in Suva a short while ago.

Speaking to this newspaper on his way out, Mr Chaudhry said he had just been released and it was back to his office to continue with his work.

“The police were courteous and treated me with respect and I have no complaints against them,” Mr Chaudhry said.

Mr Chaudhry voluntarily brought himself to the station yesterday afternoon following the detention of five men on Saturday – National Federation Party leader Professor Professor Biman Prasad, SODELPA leader Sitiveni Rabuka, Fiji Islands Council of Trade Union general secretary Attar Singh, former politician and academic Dr Tupeni Baba and Dialogue Fiji’s Jone Dakuvula.

The men were detained for comments they allegedly uttered “that could affect the safety and security of all Fijians”.

The five were released last night.

Mr Chaudhry was accompanied from the police station today by Fijian lawyer and former politician Anand Singh and his associate lawyer, Dharmen Kumar.
