OVER 100 golfers teed off for the Annual Telecom Charity Golf Tournament at the Fiji Golf Club in Suva yesterday.

The tournament was hosted by the Fiji Cancer Society and Pirates Golf, taking place in its fourth year.

Fiji Golf Club trustee Viliame Leqa said the large turnout was a commendable one.

“The tournament has been great, it’s been very encouraging to see the members come out in full force to support the event,” Leqa remarked.

The tournament this year partnered with the Fiji Cancer Society to raise more awareness on men’s reproductive health and on prostate, testicular and other cancers afflicting the male reproductive system.

Free prostate-specific antigen (PSA) tests by the Ministry of Health and Medical Services were also available for men aged 50 years and older.

Leqa said the event’s occurrence at the club was an indication of the club’s commitment towards good causes.

“What we’re doing is an annual event. This club is supportive of charity and charitable organisations that seek our support,” he mentioned.

He added the participants were made up of clubs affiliated with the golf club and were joined by teams from corporate bodies who were supporting the event as well.

Meanwhile, weather conditions were overcast as early morning showers cleared up for ground conditions to be favourable for play to get underway.
