TWO of the three individuals charged over the discovery of methamphetamine in Suva intend to formalise their marriage.
Ginna Mukunghoa Choi, a citizen of the Federated States of Micronesia, and Peniasi Delai informed Magistrate Yogesh Prasad of their intentions in the Suva Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
The pair are charged alongside Lagomarsino Baules, 38, the son of a Palau politician who was arrested with Ms Choi and Mr Delai at a Suva residence.
The trio are charged with unlawful possession of illicit drugs after they were found with 0.345 grams of methamphetamine.
Mr Baules is the son of Hokkons Baules, the president of Palau’s senate. He faces an additional charge of being a prohibited immigrant after overstaying his visitor’s permit by 16 days.
Ms Choi faces an additional charge of being in possession of property suspected to be proceeds of crime after police found Fijian and US currency in her possession.
According to Ms Choi, they were in the process of finalising their marriage before being remanded.
In response, Mr Prasad said it was their right and advised them to liaise with their lawyer, Mesake Waqavanua from the Legal Aid Commission, regarding their request.
The case has been adjourned to November 28.
