Golf Fiji president Amitesh Chandra hailed 2024 as a milestone year for the organisation, with significant achievements in growing the sport and supporting local talent.
Reflecting on the season, Chandra said Golf Fiji had achieved 50 per cent of its long-term goals.
“The season’s highlight was the successful completion of all scheduled events, with the Annual East v West Golf Challenge held at the Fiji Golf Club earlier this month.
“A total of $9000 was invested to revive tournaments like the Fiji Teams Challenge, the Theodore Trophy, and the East vs West competition.
These efforts aimed to encourage participation and strengthen the game at all levels,” Chandra said.
Internationally, Golf Fiji celebrated the success of Shakil Pillay and Rajat Rai, who competed at the Asian Amateur Golf Championship in Japan.
“Their participation not only showcased Fijian talent but also strengthened the country’s presence on the global stage.”
Locally, Golf Fiji commended the efforts of clubs such as Fiji Golf Club, Ba, Lautoka, and Novotel Golf Course in Nadi, which have established junior golf programs.
Chandra stressed the importance of nurturing young talent and confirmed Golf Fiji’s commitment to providing support through coaching, funding, and other resources.
As the organisation wraps up 2024, it expressed gratitude to all sponsors for their unwavering support.
Chandra noted that these partnerships were instrumental in the year’s success and are vital for the future growth of golf in Fiji.
