When Rajnil Chandra hit a perfect score of 180 in his first throw of the doubles leg, he pointed at his partner, raised both hands and shouted: “BOOYEAH!”

The 39-year-old, known simply as Raj, is from Fulaga Street in Samabula and plays for Ono Darts, the defending champions of the Suva Darts Association (SDA) Open League.

“180 is the highest score a player can achieve in 3 darts in a game and scoring a 180 is always an achievement,” Raj said.

His moment of brilliance came in week one of the 2025 SDA Open League, as he and fellow 180-hitter Keshwan Damodar lit up opening night with maximum scores.

Chnadra, who only picked up darts during COVID five years ago, said it was one of his proudest moments on the oche.

“My 180 came in the first throw of the doubles leg. I was really happy with the 180,” he said.

The Ono Darts team, made up largely of young players, is now leading the standings after two weeks of play.

Raj said their goal is not just to win back-to-back titles, but also to grow future national reps.

“Ono Darts is a team made of youths, and we want to develop players so they can make it to the Fiji team for the 2027 South Pacific Darts Championship in the Cook Islands,” he said.

SDA president Edward Roxburgh welcomed the early display of top-tier darts as a sign of progress.

“This is impressive. It just shows the standards of players in our country is improving,” Roxburgh said.

The competition follows a round-robin format and uses an electronic scoring system. Trophies and cash are the prizes for the event.
