The Singapore Sevens defending champions, the Fiji Airways Fiji men’s sevens team, have safely arrived in Singapore on Monday morning at 5 am.
Despite the effects of jet lag, the Osea Kolinisau-coached side appears confident as they prepare to defend their title this weekend.
“We reached the hotel at 6 am, checked in, had breakfast, then we had a gym plus pool session,” said Kolinisau.
“Then we had a clarity session in the afternoon as the boys were tired and jet-legged, but we just needed a skills and clarity session to get us rolling into the week. Other than that, there haven’t been any injuries, and the boys are keeping well. There’s been lots of positive energy from the boys and we’re looking forward to this week.”
Since their arrival, the team has acclimatised and adapted well to the Singapore climate and time zone as training intensifies ahead of their title defence.
Last year, Fiji overcame Kenya’s 0-7 lead in the first half to win the final.
Two quick tries from Viuwa Naduvalo in the second half ignited Fiji’s comeback, before Rauto Vakadranu sealed their victory in the 12th minute with a well-worked team try.
It was a special night for Naduvalo, who was awarded player of the match.
