The Pacific Polytech’s School of Hospitality and Tourism Studies Centre in Sigatoka will expose students to the real-world needs of the tourism sector.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Viliame Gavoka highlighted this while officially opening the centre last Friday.

“Through the support of the Government and its partners, Pacific Polytech has developed a facility that prioritises applied learning,” Mr Gavoka said.

” I am being advised that the centre includes a fully operational training restaurant, a model hotel, an event centre, and, in the near future, a dedicated beauty and spa training facility.

“Such facilities are designed to expose students to real industry settings. Allowing them to build competencies in line with professional standards — a critical factor in delivering the quality of service that underpins Fiji’s reputation as a world-class destination.”

Mr Gavoka said he’s proud that the centre was established in his hometown of Sigatoka.

“Not only are we producing great rugby players, but we are also now able to produce master-class chefs, event managers, hotel managers and so on right here in the Rugby Town.”
