The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has included Fiji in its revised Global Dengue Travel Health Advisory.
This advisory urges travellers to exercise increased caution and take necessary precautions against mosquito bites to mitigate the risk of contracting the virus.
The advisory, prominently displayed on the official CDC travel health website, provides essential guidelines for travellers on preventive measures such as using insect repellent, wearing long-sleeved clothing, and staying in accommodations equipped with adequate mosquito protection.
Fiji is experiencing a significant spike in dengue cases, according to the latest World Health Organization (WHO) update.
A recent dengue situation update issued by the WHO on April 3, 2025, indicates a concerning escalation in dengue cases.
Over the past two weeks alone, Fiji reported more than 800 new dengue infections weekly, significantly surpassing the country’s typical five-year median of approximately 300 monthly cases during similar periods, said WHO.
