THE Government is investing in a nationwide CCTV camera project as part of its expanding communications infrastructure, says Minister for Policing and Communications Ioane Naivalurua.
Mr Naivalurua made the comments while officiating at the Pacific Fiber Conference at the Sheraton Fiji Golf Resort and Spa in Nadi last week.
“This initiative has already taken shape in the Central Division and will be progressively expanded across the country,” he said.
“Additionally, we are also investing in advanced technologies to bolster our fight against drugs and other serious crimes, ensuring our law enforcement agencies have the tools necessary to keep our communities safe and secure.”
Mr Naivalurua said digital transformation could only succeed if every Fijian was able to participate.
“While market investment continues to expand connectivity across our country, the Government remains committed to ensuring that rural, remote and maritime communities are not left behind.
“Through the universal service scheme administered by the Telecommunications Authority of Fiji, or TAF, we continue to extend telecommunication services to communities where commercial deployment alone is not economically viable.”
Mr Naivalurua said more than 54 universal service sites had been commissioned, with implementation continuing nationwide.
He said phase two was under development and would target another 113 communities.
