The Dudley High School interhouse athletics competition delivered an electrifying showdown last Saturday at the HFC National Stadium in Suva, with Cargill House coming out on top by clinching 25 gold medals.
They just edged out last year’s defending champions, Cross House, who took home 24 golds.
Hunt House and Baker House followed closely with 23 and 22 gold medals, respectively.
Iliesa Navitalai, the school’s athletics coach, highlighted the stiff competition this year.
“This is my third year at Dudley High School, and this year’s squad is different. The competition is more intense compared to previous years,” Navitalai said.
The school’s boys and girls teams hold third position on the zone competition, but Navitalai is optimistic about the future.
“We are focusing on middle and long-distance events and trying to improve our field events as well.
“We’re also switching some athletes to new events to maximize our chances of success.”
With the Suva Zone 1 and Fiji Finals coming up, Dudley High School is gearing up for a strong performance, aiming to build on their steady improvements and possibly take home more medals this season.
