FIJI’S team captain Taniela Rainibogi has delivered a standout performance at the 2026 Universal Weightlifting Cup, setting a new Oceania record in the snatch with an impressive 173kg lift.
This achievement not only earned him top honors in the snatch category but also marked a personal best, highlighting his growing dominance in the sport.
Competing against some of the region’s strongest lifters, Rainibogi combined his record-setting snatch with a solid 200kg clean and jerk, bringing his total to 373kg.
This effort secured him a bronze medal overall and silver in the Oceania Senior Division.
Rainibogi’s breakthrough performance positions him as one of Fiji’s top potential medalists for the upcoming Commonwealth Games.
Coming off a gold medal win at last year’s Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships, his continued progress signals a strong chance for success on this bigger international stage.
This latest achievement is a significant boost for Fiji’s weightlifting ambitions and demonstrates the country’s rising profile in the sport.
