SUVA thumped Rakiraki 5-1 in their Vodafone Premier League game held at Ra Sports Council ground yesterday.
The loss also relegated Rakiraki to the senior reserve grades competition next year.
The hosts though started the game strongly leading 1-0 at the break with a goal from Jale Vota but a lapse of concentration in the latter stages of the second spell gave Suva many scoring opportunities.
Ravinesh Karan Singh scored two goals for the capital side with the rest of the goals scored by Kelvin Naidu, Sairusi Nalaubu and coach/player Pita Rabo.
Rakiraki president Shanil Gounder said the boys lost focus in the last quarter enabling Suva to score five goals.
He said the loss was attributed to the players’ attitude towards training.
“Six regular team members did not play because they failed to attend training during the week,” he said.
“We started the game well but a lapse of concentration in the last quarter of the game cost us dearly.
“The loss has relegated us to the senior reserves competition, but I am glad the boys have learnt a lot of lessons during tour stint in the top level competition.”
Suva president Ritesh Pratap said the game was a good buildup for the upcoming Inter District Championship.
“We missed out on many scoring opportunities and we really need to improve on our finishing as we prepare for the IDC,” he added.
Suva earlier defeated Nadi 1-0 on Saturday.
