More than 10,200 sugar cane growers will receive a special cane payment a week before Diwali.

The announcement was made by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka during the launch of the PM’s Sugar Cane Farmers Awards in Lautoka today.

He said the special cane payment would be the second made this year.

“I am pleased to announce that Government will once again provide a further top up in the final cane payment due before Diwali for the 2024 crop of $8.27 taking the fourth payment to $9.47,” said Mr Rabuka.

“This will lift the final pay out for the 2024 crop to $101.13 per tonne which means that our Government had made the three highest cane payment ever recorded in the history of the sugar industry.”
