The Sugar Industry Tribunal has confirmed that the final cane payment for the 2024 sugar season will bring the total payout to growers to $101.13 per tonne of cane — one of the highest payments on record.
In a statement, Sugar Industry Tribunal Timothy Brown said that, based on certified advice from the Tribunal’s accountant and in accordance with the Sugar Industry Master Award, the net share of cane proceeds received for the 2024 season amounts to $117,023,635, equivalent to $87.86 per tonne of cane.
To date, the Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) has paid farmers a total of $91.66 per tonne, made up of $43.06 per tonne as the delivery payment, $14.35 per tonne for the second cane payment, $12.22 per tonne for the third cane payment, $17.03 per tonne for the fourth cane payment, and a Government top-up of $5.00 per tonne in May 2025.
“The FSC has advised that it will pay $1.20 per tonne as the final cane payment on Wednesday, 15 October 2025, bringing the total FSC payout to $92.86 per tonne for the season,” said the Tribunal.
“The Government has announced an additional top-up of $8.27 per tonne, raising the total amount paid to farmers to $101.13 per tonne — well above the guaranteed price of $85 per tonne.”
The Mr Brown said this record payout reflects the government’s continued commitment to the sugar industry and its growers.
“This represents the second-highest payment to growers on record and demonstrates the government’s strong support for our sugar farmers,” he said.
