Commissioner Northern Uraia Rainima warns that recent developments in the North must not threaten the environment.
He made the comments while opening the Festival of the Friendly North at Subrail Park in Labasa on Saturday.
“The changing of the business landscape is a milestone achievement for our people,” he said.
“While we celebrate with these achievements, we must ensure that we are doing things right.
At the opening ceremony on Saturday night, the contestants wore clothing made out of recycled items such as sacks, plastics, and old greenhouses which was in line with this year’s theme, “Sustainable Agriculture – Green Economy”.
Nine queens are competing for the title of Miss Friendly North, while three men are vying for the title of king.
