Yalovata Lomaiviti 7s vice-president Meli Volau is calling out rugby fans and enthusiasts to come out in numbers to the Fiji Bitter Lomaiviti 7s tournament which kicks starts in Levuka today.

The three-day event will be held at Nasau Park in Ovalau, Levuka, and will feature 7s rugby, volleyball, and netball events.

“We are anticipating this year’s tournament to be the biggest ever because we have recorded the greatest number of teams and we have also added a new sport which is netball,” Volau said.

“We are also calling out to all rugby fans and enthusiasts to come out in numbers and support your respective teams here in Levuka.”

According to Volau, the tournament is expected to start at 8am this morning with ticket prices at $3 per child and $5 per adult for today and tomorrow.

“With the finals for all sports being held on Saturday, the ticket prices for adults will move up to $7.”

There will be a total of 32 men’s and 16 under-21 teams in the 7s competition.

“We also have eight women’s teams in 7s rugby, and 16 teams each for volleyball and netball.”

Volau labeled Police Blue, Lavidi Brothers, and Yalovata Blue as teams to watch out for in the competition.

“Wardens Gold is currently the defending champion of the competition, but we have teams like Police Blue, Lavidi Brothers, and Yalovata Blue to watch out for when the competition starts.”

Teams confirmed in Pool One for the men’s division are Wardens Gold, Veilomani Brothers, Yalovata Blue, and Nasinu Rugby. BLK Lavidi Brothers, Navy, Marist Rugby, and Waqavuka 7s are in Pool Two.

Police Blue leads Pool Three with Mataravua, Flame Tree Waimanu, and Yalovata Red, while in Pool Four are Dominion Brothers, Nakavu Rugby, Police White, and First Capital Brothers.

Army Green, BLK St John Draiba, Golden Eagles, Chilbar Lami Cavaliers, and West Coast Drifters make up Pool Five, leaving Fiji Babas, Army Red, Police Levuka, PWD Bure and Flame Tree Colo-I-Suva in Pool Six.
