THE Western Netball Associations affiliated with Netball Fiji have urged the parent body’s president RubyAnn Sorovaki to do the right thing, ahead of a Special General Meeting called by the presidents of 15 netball associations for this Saturday.
In response to a question posed by The Fiji Times on what they wanted to tell Sorovaki, they urged her to come clean for the sake of the sport.
“To be transparent, practise good governance and change the people to do the work so we can feel the growth of netball in Fiji,” Lautoka netball president Dorothy Prasad replied on behalf of the Western presidents.
The Western associations include Ba, Lautoka, Nadi, Ra, Rakiraki, Tavua and Vatukaloko.
They were part of 15 presidents that signed a letter calling for a SGM, where they accused the current executive committee of Netball Fiji for multiple failures and demanded they be replaced by an interim committee.
With the executive committee, the Western associations claimed they were difficult to work with.
“They don’t do anything at all,” they told this newspaper.
“They are supposed to serve and look after the district associations but all they do is look at their own interest.”
“They hardly come around to see the Western districts and talk to us if we have any problems.
“All they do is dictate from the office,” they said.
Little to no players scouted from the West was another claim put forth by the presidents and even raised the loss of players to other sports as well.
“They never come around to the Western districts to scout players. Western players had good potential players but NF executives are lazy to get up and scout for good players,” the presidents claimed.
“We don’t feel the netball (spirit) anymore, that’s why a lot of good players have gone to another sport.”
Questions on the matter were sent to NF president RubyAnn Sorovaki on Monday.
Sorovaki had not replied when this edition went to press last night.
The SGM is scheduled for this Saturday in Suva.
