THE Cakaudrove netball teams delivered strong performances at the Crest Fiji Primary Schools Netball Tournament, booking eight spots in the finals across both Tier One and Tier Two divisions.

The district’s success came in the under-9, under-10, under-11, under-12 and under-14 grades, highlighting depth and consistency throughout their age-group teams.

Teams manager Maria Tikoisuva said managing a large group of schools was challenging but rewarding.

“It is a big place. We distributed the teams across three areas,” she said.

She said the teams were organised into three main groups to make training and coordination easier, with schools from different regions coming together under one system.

“One group includes schools from the mainland such as Pearls and Sharks, which also consists of smaller schools within that region.”

However, she said bringing more than 30 schools together was not easy due to distance and scheduling issues.

“It was a big challenge for us, especially with more than 30 schools involved. The timing and the location of the schools made it difficult to organise training ”

She said the tournament schedule was affected by weather disruptions, forcing a change in preparation plans.

“We were supposed to have the tournament earlier, but due to weather conditions it was postponed.

“Instead of the original week, we moved it to Week 12, which still gave us a week for preparation.”

Despite the challenges, Cakaudrove managed to perform strongly across all grades, securing multiple finals appearances in both tiers of competition.
