Cafe to complement city settings

THE recently opened Brew and Bites Cafe will generate income for Lautoka City and provide a relaxing space for residents, said Housing and Local Government Minister Maciu Nalumisa.While officiating at the opening o f the cafe on Thursday, Mr Nalumisa said project cost about $530,000.

Brew and Bites Cafe is based at the Botanical Garden in Lautoka.

“In addition to these, the coffee shop complements a tranquil setting and provides a welcoming space where people can gather, connect and enjoy a unique experience within a natural environment,” he said.

“I commend the vision and persistent development of the council for pursuing this development and seeing it to the end after a lapse of four years.”

Mr Nalumisa commended the Lautoka City Council for spearheading the project which would make it less reliant on Government to fund developments within the city.

“This development aligns with the Government’s broader focus on improving public spaces and we truly believe that our cities must not only grow economically, but must also provide inclusive, accessible and attractive environments for our people.”

Mr Nalumisa said micro, small and medium enterprises have been driving the economy globally.

Chairman of the Lautoka City Council board of special administrators Taitusi Rasoki said the coffee shop represents a new source of income and will provide an additional revenue stream for the Council to better serve the people of Lautoka or improve in service delivery.

Cafe owners Krishan Mudaliar an Komal Karishma Prasad said they are fortunate to have partnered with the council for the completion of the project.
