FIJI Taxi Association president Raben Bhan Singh has called on all new permit holders to follow the law.
He made the comment after issues raised by concerned association members about the hundreds of new Lautoka Zone I cabbies who had flooded the Sugar City in the past few weeks.
“We understand that they have got their taxi permits through the Land Transport Authority lottery and want to do business but that doesn’t mean they can break the law,” he said. “We have noticed Zone I taxis parking in bases where operators have paid base fees to operate from.
“We have also noticed Zone I taxis parking in metered parking zones — this is not right because that is for private vehicles only.
“If the new permit holders continue to flout the law, we will take the issue further, so I urge them to do the right thing by operating out of the zones they received their permits for.”
