CRICKET Fiji has set ambitious targets for this year and has a busy calendar ahead as they strive to achieve their goals.
Looking towards 2026, the organisation has laid out several plans and aims that they hope to accomplish.
Cricket Fiji CEO Siti Rokoro has emphasised the need to improve the global ranking of the national Men’s and Women’s teams.
This objective will involve strategic planning, training programs, and a focus on enhancing the performance of the teams on the international stage to elevate their rankings.
He mentioned another key goal for Cricket Fiji in 2026 is to secure a suitable piece of land to establish a full-time cricket facility.
“This facility will provide a dedicated space for training, matches, and development programs, enhancing the overall cricketing experience for players and fans,” said Rokoro.
“Cricket Fiji aims to strengthen the domestic competition structure to create a more competitive environment for local players.
“By enhancing the quality of domestic leagues and tournaments, the organisation intends to nurture talent and provide a clear pathway for players to progress to higher levels of the sport.”
He adds one of the major aspirations for Cricket Fiji in 2026 is to qualify the national U19 women’s team for the 2027 U19 Women’s World Cup in Bangladesh and Nepal.
This will require focused training, preparation, and participation in the ICC U19 Women’s World Cup East Asia Pacific Qualifier in Papua New Guinea in April 2026.
Looking ahead at the upcoming tournaments, Cricket Fiji is gearing up for the ICC U19 Women’s World Cup – East Asia Pacific Qualifier in April 2026, where they will compete against teams from Indonesia, PNG, Samoa, and Vanuatu for a chance to qualify for the 2027 U19 Women’s World Cup.
Following this, the ICC Senior Men’s World Cup EAP Qualifier in Japan in May 2026 will see Fiji facing off against teams from Cook Islands, Indonesia, Philippines, PNG, Japan, Samoa, South Korea, and Vanuatu, aiming for qualification to the next global qualifier in 2027.
Reflecting on the achievements of the 2025 season, Cricket Fiji celebrated various successes, including the Fiji women’s team defeating the higher-ranked France women’s team in the Pacific French Women’s Tournament and the successful hosting of the Women’s East Asia Pacific World Cup Qualifier.
