Albert Park was alive with energy on Saturday as 24 teams from Suva’s business community came together to compete in the Suva Touch Rugby Business House Festival.
This event was about more than just winning trophies, it was about building friendships, staying active and creating a sense of belonging in a fast-paced world.
In the Tier 1 final, Combined Accountants narrowly defeated Vodafone 5-3 in a match that showcased great skill and determination.
Meanwhile, Rolle Associates dominated the Tier 2 final with a strong 5-1 win over Tower Insurance.
The festival’s second round saw teams divided into two tiers based on their earlier performances.
Players from a wide range of companies, organisations and government departments took part, reflecting the growing appeal of touch rugby across all sectors of Suva.
Danielle Keli, president of the Suva Touch Rugby Association, spoke about the sport’s inclusive nature.
“Touch rugby is a sport that’s not limited to a certain group or criteria. It’s inclusive of age, gender, race, size, ability, everyone’s welcome,” she said.
“It’s a family-oriented sport and they just love it. It’s a non-contact sport, so it’s a safe sport as well.”
Keli explained that the festival’s purpose went beyond just competition.
“We want to promote a healthy and well-being lifestyle, just keeping active physically. We also want to create networking opportunities where we can just get to know more people,” she said.
This first-ever Business House Festival has already proven successful in bringing the working community closer through sport.
Meanwhile, funds raised from the event will support the Suva teams as they prepare to travel to New Zealand later this year to compete in the Pacific Cup.
