Business bowls heat up

IT’S a four-way tie at the top after two rounds of play in the Suva Bowling Club’s Pacific Energy business-house tournament.

National rep Semesa Naiseruvati’s Humes, Dan Lum On’s Renegade, Pacific Energy and Krishna Joseph Construction are the leading teams with maximum wins in the 16-team tournament.

“The whole idea is to give the participating business-house teams 10 weeks of great fun, opportunity to socialise with others and networking to build future business relationships,” SBC manager/secretary Diwan Chand said.

“Pacific Energy has been an ardent supporter of lawn bowls for numerous years now. Pacific Energy recognises that minor sports in Fiji need the backing of corporate entities such as theirs to keep the interest and the sport going.”

The business-house tourney has been sponsored by Pacific Energy for $3500.

Chand said Pacific Energy had sponsored a similar business-house tournament earlier in the year.

“The results of these sponsorships for the sport of bowls have been very encouraging. The telling factor is the increase in the total number of playing and social membership,” he said.

“In the last four years, we had membership that hovered around the one hundred mark. Today, thanks to sponsorships from corporate bodies such as Pacific Energy, we now boast a membership of around 170. We believe that with the sponsorship of this business-house bowling competition our expectations of increase in membership numbers would be closer to the 200 mark,” he said.

Prizes in the tournament will be awarded in different categories with $450 for the cup winner.
