Bus plunges off bridge, 43 injured

WHAT was supposed to be a normal working day for 50 hotel workers turned into mayhem yesterday after the bus they were traveling on veered off the Denarau bridge.

According to Police, the staff service-run bus contracted to Classic Buses Ltd veered off the bridge and landed in the swamp.

The incident occurred at around 7.50am, and 43 of the injured passengers were rushed to Zens Medical Hospital in Nadi Town,” Police said.

“Seven passengers were rushed to the Nadi Hospital.”

Police investigations into the incident are continuing.

Meanwhile, Classic Buses Ltd said they were fully cooperating with authorities and conducting their own internal review of the incident.

The company said the bus was contracted to transport Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort staff.

“Our foremost priority has been the safety and well-being of all passengers and staff,” a statement from the company said.

“Company representatives were on site promptly to assist emergency services and ensure that every injured person received immediate care.”

The company said it maintains strict safety procedures and regular maintenance checks across its fleet, and that all drivers underwent continuous training to uphold responsible driving standards.
