BUS passengers can now pay for their rides without carrying a physical e-Ticketing card, with new mobile payment options launched as part of Fiji’s next phase of digital transport services.
In a statement, Minister for Policing and Communications Ioane Naivalurua said the upgrades would make public transport more convenient while supporting Fiji’s wider digital transformation.
Passengers can now generate and scan QR codes through the official e-Ticketing mobile app to pay for bus fares.
Digicel myCash users can also transfer funds directly into the e-Ticketing app, joining Vodafone M-PAiSA users, while online transfers from local bank accounts are supported through the national payment switch.
“Digital transformation is not simply about introducing new technology,” Mr Naivalurua said.
“It is about using technology to make everyday life simpler, more convenient, and more accessible for our people.
“We must connect our people, and we must give them useful digital services to connect to.”
He said the upgrades were part of Government’s national digital strategy and complemented the universal service program, which has connected 116 operational sites across six provinces, bringing online access to more than 2600 households and 11,400 Fijians.
Mr Naivalurua urged bus passengers nationwide to begin using the new mobile payment options which started yesterday, saying the Government’s goal was to ensure technology delivered “real benefits” to everyday life.
“Whether it is accessing education, communicating with family, or paying for a bus ride, our objective is to ensure technology delivers real benefits.”
