Forty-seven people are admitted at the Nadi Hospital after the bus they were travelling in was involved in a collision with a locomotive in Navo, Nadi yesterday.
First at the scene were members of the Navua soccer team who were returning home after playing Nadi in the Digicel Premier League.
“On the way back we were among the few to be the first to this road accident site Navo in Nadi,” posted team assistant coach Sailosi Danford on social media last night.
“The boys were quick-thinking and got everyone out.”
Those injured were transported to hospital in the Navua soccer team’s bus.
Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said the incident happened around 5.30pm.
She said the locomotive was driven by a 45-year-old man from Moala Village in Nadi.
“The locomotive driver and boy escaped injuries while the bus driver and 47 passengers were taken to Nadi Hospital for treatment and are under observation,” Ms Naisoro said.
She said investigation continues.
