Fane Sivoki gave birth to a “miracle child” at the Labasa Hospital on New Year’s Eve.

Ms Sivoki said her third child has been labelled by the healthcare workers as a miracle baby because soon after birth, the baby was supposed to be admitted at neonatal intensive care unit.

“I was advised by doctors that she would be operated on as she had a brain problem,” she said.

“Upon medically checking the baby again last night, they were not able to detect anything.

“Even though she’s an end of the year baby, it still brings me joy,” she said.

“I am glad that she is healthy and not sick.”

She said her husband was yet to receive the news that she had given birth to a baby girl because of bad internet connection at the village.

Meanwhile at 8.32am on New Year’s Day, Apikali Siga welcomed her first child, a baby girl at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital.

The 23-year-old of Nauouo Village, Ovalau said she was expecting her little bundle of joy on Christmas Day but was happy that her 3.05kg daughter came out healthy.

“I was admitted on Saturday and starting experiencing body pain until yesterday (Sunday),” she said.

“And this morning I gave birth.”

The Lautoka Aspen Hospital recorded a birth at 4am on New Year’s Day but the mother refused a request to be interviewed.
