The infliction of corporal punishment by senior students on junior students shows the “kingpin” mentality in boarding schools.

Education Minister Aseri Radrodro made the comments while confirming nine senior students of Queen Victoria School allegedly inflicted corporal punishment to Year 9 and 10 students last week.

“This incident has once again resurfaced the issue of ‘Kingpin’ despite the assurance by the School Administration that this will not happen,’ said Mr Radrodro.

He reiterated that any form of corporal punishment or violence in schools is strictly prohibited.

“Such actions not only violate the rights of students but also undermine the educational environment.”

He also emphasises all teachers and school staff are expected to create a safe and supportive atmosphere for all students.

“They must uphold standards of professionalism and ensure that any disciplinary actions must adhere to MOE guidelines that prioritise the well-being of students.”

“Parents are encouraged to communicate openly with their children about their experiences at school.”

The Education Minister a special audit will be taking place at QVS for all the school operations.
