The Bula Hoops Basketball Program is making a positive impact on the youth in Suva, targeting children between the ages of five to 15 years old who are interested in learning or being introduced to the sport of basketball.

This after-school program, held three times a week at the Vodafone Arena in Suva, aims to teach children the fundamentals of basketball in a safe and supportive environment.

Laisiasa Puamau, the chief operating officer of Basketball Fiji, said they were facing challenges in securing suitable facilities and venues for the program.

However, the program continues to thrive and expand, with plans to introduce it in Nadi and Lautoka.

“The program runs for eight to 10 weeks and includes a friendship league where kids can apply what they have learned in a non-competitive setting,” Puamau said.

“The emphasis is on fun and enjoyment, with no prizes at stake. The program is still open for enrolment, and interested participants can contact the program co-ordinator, William Peter, or visit the Basketball Fiji media page for more information.

“The Bula Hoops Basketball Program is not only teaching children the skills of basketball but also instilling values of teamwork, dedication, and most importantly, fun. It is paving the way for a new generation of basketball enthusiasts in Fiji.”
