THE Bula Festival is more than music and colour — it’s a call to action, says Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Viliame Gavoka.
He made this statement while opening the 65th Nadi Bula Festival last Saturday, saying the evening was more than a celebration.
“It’s a time to renew our commitment to the hope, unity, and strength that define Nadi,” Mr Gavoka said.
“In a world shaped by challenges, this festival reminds us of the power of coming together — with love, compassion, and shared purpose. That’s the spirit behind this year’s theme: ‘Rebuilding Lives through Compassion and Charity’.”
Mr Gavoka said when talking about rebuilding, we often think of roads or buildings.
“But real rebuilding begins in the heart,” he said.
“It begins when we look around and say to one another, ‘We see you. We care. And we will help you rise’.”
Addressing the contestants vying for the Bula Crown, formerly known as Adi Bula, the minister said, “…we honour your courage, commitment, and the sacrifices you’ve made to be here”.
“Your journey begins tonight, but your impact is already being felt. As the festival unfolds, remember, you are more than contestants; you are leaders.
“You’ve stepped forward to champion important causes and uplift your communities. From this very moment, you already carry the pride of your people.”
The week-long festival will conclude this Saturday with the crowning of the 2025 Miss FMF Bula Queen.
