Building permits rise to $618m in 2025

Fiji recorded an increase in building activity in 2025, with the total value of building permits issued reaching $618 million, according to the latest Building Statistics Annual 2025 report.

The report shows that 1,095 building permits were issued during the year. This represents a 7.5 percent increase in the number of permits and a 4.9 percent rise in the value of works compared with 2024.

Data compiled from city and town councils indicates that construction activity remained concentrated in a few key regions, with the Central Division accounting for the largest share of building permits at 50.6 percent, followed by the Western Division with 39.8 percent and the Northern Division with 9.6 percent.

The report also highlights trends in completed construction projects.

A total of 239 completion certificates were issued in 2025, representing construction works valued at $224.6 million.

While the number of completion certificates dropped by 29.3 percent compared with 2024, the value of completed construction works increased significantly by 71.5 percent.

The breakdown of completion certificates by division shows the Western Division dominating with 78.9 percent of the total value, followed by the Central Division with 19.9 percent, and the Northern Division accounting for 1.2 percent.

Building statistics track the number and value of permits and completion certificates issued over a period and provide an indicator of construction sector activity across the country.
