The cost of building materials in Fiji has fallen significantly in the September quarter of 2025, according to new data released by the Fiji Bureau of Statistics (FBoS).

The All Items Building Material Price Index (BMPI) stood at 136.5, marking a 3.2% decrease compared to the June quarter.

The index tracks the price movements of a representative basket of construction materials, using the average of the four quarters of 2019 as its base.

The decline was largely driven by notable price drops in several key categories:

– Paint and Glass dropped 6.7%, including lower prices for primers, varnishes, finishing coats, and clear glass.

– Plumbing Ware saw a 5.2% decline, with cheaper prices recorded for PVC pipes, sinks, WC units, and tap fittings.

– Cement and Related Materials decreased 3.6%, while Iron and Steel fell 2.9%.

– Floor and Wall Tiles recorded a 1.1% decrease.

Some categories did register price increases. Wood and related materials rose by 1.0%, with higher costs noted for framing timber, plywood, and skirting boards. Door and window frames also edged up slightly by 0.2%.
