Bua FC crowned themselves as holders of the Fiji Football Association Presidents Cup after beating Seaqaqa 6-5 in a penalty shoot out at Subrail Park yesterday.
It all came down to a penalty shootout after both teams failed to score for the entire 90 minutes of the match.
Skipper Mohammed Zaid said they had anticipated a tough and physical match in the finals against Seaqaqa, and agreed that being nil-all at full-time was a testament to it.
“We already knew it would be tough, but I’ll admit that it was tougher that we thought,” Zaid said.
“The boys played well but we were just unable to find that gap and score a goal.”
Bua made one of the greatest upsets of the tournament on Saturday after beating defending champions Savusavu in the semi-finals.
“We went back to camp after that match and just discussed our mistakes and weaknesses.
“Even though we were unable to score any goals today, I think the boys made a lot of improvement from the semi-finals.”
Zaid said the win reflected the hard work and sacrifices of the team over the past few weeks, after setting their eyes on bringing the cup to Bua.
“Our aim from the beginning of the tournament was to reach the finals and bring the cup home.
“There were a lot of sacrifices, time and energy into preparing our team and we are happy that we are finally bearing the fruits of our labour.”
