Bank of South Pacific (BSP) and its insurance subsidiary BSP Life have jointly donated $100,000 to the Fiji Cancer Society in support of the national ambition to eradicate cervical cancer in Fiji.
The funds are earmarked to assist in acquiring a GeneXpert machine that will enable on-the-spot testing, earlier diagnosis, and more timely treatment for those most at risk.
BSP public relations and communications specialist Salome Waqailiti said the fund presentation reinforced their commitment to championing prosperity beyond financial performance. She said institutions endured not simple because of its history or scale, but because it changed with purpose, and for BSP that purpose also carried a responsibility to give back to the communities that placed their trust in them.
“We are proud to be part of an organisation that understands prosperity is about more than financials. Health underpins prosperity. When women are healthy, families are stronger, communities are more resilient and our collective futures are protected,” Ms Waqailiti said.
Fiji Cancer Society chief executive officer Belinda Chan said the donation represented far more than equipment, but an investment in systems that strengthened their capacity.
“It enhances early detection, enabling faster, more reliable diagnoses and ensuring that women are identified and treated earlier. This leads to better outcomes, reduced disease burden, and more lives saved,” Ms Chan said.
“At the same time, it builds efficiency and sustainability within our health system. It develops local diagnostic capacity, supports timely, evidence-based care, and reinforces our commitment to equity.”
She said by aligning with WHO’s pillars, the contribution accelerated Fiji’s progress toward the 2030 elimination goal and demonstrated the power of partnership in transforming health outcomes.
Ms Chan invited leaders, partners, and stakeholders to continue championing investments in women’s health and innovative solutions, adding by working together, they could accelerate progress, drive meaningful impact and ensure the benefits of partnerships reached every family and community they served.
