Brodie’s aiming for games gold

MINI Pacific Games sailing gold medallists Shayne and Torika Brodie will look to register another medal at the regional meet in Papua New Guinea.

Secretary for the Fiji Yachting Association Neville Koop said the husband and wife team were capable of bagging gold.

“There is a good chance of them winning a medal and certainly a gold medal if the conditions are super,” he said.

This year local boys Epeli Druma and Saimoni Nauru will for the first time feature in the games, participating in the Hobie 16 class.

In the Laser class, another four athletes namely Charlotte Taylor, Naomi Waqalevu, Michael Chan and Peter Thaggard, all of whom are from Savusavu, will depart for Port Moresby on Wednesday for the games.

With Australia and New Zealand competing in the sailing competition Koop said competition would likely be tough.

“With sailing being one of the four sports that Australia and New Zealand will be participating in, they are a bit of an unknown right now because we don’t know who is competing from there,” he said.

The sailing competition at the regional games begins on July 6th at the Konebada water sports complex in Gabutu.
