WORDS don’t put food on the table, Fisheries Minister Alitia Bainivalu said yesterday, after a call was made for Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka to resign.

The call came from Opposition MP Ketan Lal, who claimed many Fijians were unhappy with the Government.

However, Ms Bainivalu said no government would ever make everyone happy, adding that true leadership was not about running away when things get tough, but about standing firm and fixing problems.

“This government was elected by the people,” she said.

She said the Coalition Government had inherited a country weighed down by debt, broken systems and years of mismanagement.

“This is the real reason people are struggling today. We are cleaning up that mess, and it doesn’t happen overnight.”

She said the Prime Minister and his Government were focused on getting the work done, while the Opposition only talks.

“If Mr Ketan wants to be taken seriously, he should bring solutions instead of asking the Prime Minister to walk away.”
