THE Coalition Government remains committed to delivering infrastructures that are inclusive, climate-resilient, and responsive to the needs of all Fijians, particularly those living in rural and maritime communities.
Public Works Minister Ro Filipe Tuisawau made the remarks while commissioning the Nailawa Bridge in Ra last Friday, emphasising that infrastructure is one of the key foundations of national development.
“Roads and bridges are not simply concrete and steel — they are investments in people,” he said.
“They connect communities, stimulate economic growth, strengthen disaster resilience, and improve access to government services.”
Ro Filipe said as climate change continued to present increasing challenges through more frequent extreme weather events, Government must continue investing in infrastructures that are designed to withstand climate resilient conditions while ensuring the safety and wellbeing of its people.
“Today’s commissioning demonstrates what can be achieved through collaboration between Government agencies, engineers, contractors, traditional leaders, and local communities.
“Together, we have delivered infrastructure that will serve this region for many years to come.”
Ro Filipe encouraged the people of Nailawa and the surrounding villages to take pride in the new bridge and help preserve it.
“Let us all work together to ensure this important public asset continues to serve future generations safely and effectively.”
He acknowledged the Fiji Roads Authority, the ministry’s technical teams, the consulting engineers, contractors, traditional leaders, landowners, and all stakeholders whose dedication made the project possible.
“Your commitment and partnership are sincerely appreciated.
“Today we celebrate not only the completion of a bridge, but the strengthening of communities, the expansion of opportunities and another important milestone in Fiji’s development.”
