Saoirse Breen aims to become Fiji’s first women’s tennis professional player.
Breen is Fiji’s No.1 junior rep, who has a world junior ranking of 639. Her career highest ranking was 550 back in January this year.
Breen is based in Barcelona, Spain.
She collected three silver medals and a bronze at the recent Pacific Mini Games (PMG).
Breen was part of the Fiji team that won the women’s title during the Punjas Nations Cup Pacific which ended in Lautoka last Saturday.
Breen said they worked very hard for the PMG. She said they were really happy with the results.
“I have been preparing well, so I have confidence in my tennis,” Breen said.
“There are strong players in the regional countries such as Samoa and the Solomon Islands. Every tournament I play in gives me more experience.”
Breen is set to return to Barcelona soon. She said the level of tennis in the Pacific region was different from Europe.
“You play different players at different levels,” the 18 -year-old said.
“You learn how to cope with different styles of the game. I’m always happy to come back to represent Fiji. In Europe the difference is that the level of competition is higher there compared to the Pacific.
