You don’t need a fancy gym to build a fighter, just ask Binnu Singh Snr.

In the hills above Sigatoka, with sandbags swinging from trees and canvas shoes on his feet, Singh carved out a boxing career that earned him four national titles and a rivalry with one of Fiji’s most recognisable names in boxing, Junior Farzan Ali.

He didn’t chase headlines, but his fights told their own stories, especially the ones that went the distance.

Now retired and working the land, Singh is back where it started, shaping his sons into boxers the same way he was shaped: through sweat, sacrifice and the quiet belief that the best fighters are built far from the spotlight.

He is the father of Fiji’s current featherweight champion Junior Binnu Singh.
