FOUR amateur boxers are competing for the two spots available for the 2018 Commonwealth Games to be held in Gold Coast, Australia.
The boxers are Olympian Winston Hill, Jone Koroilagilagi, Joe Ravudi and Sebastian Singh’s younger brother Nathan Singh.
This was confirmed by Fiji Amateur Boxing Association president Manasa Baravilala.
“We have been given only two spots for the Commonwealth Games,” Baravilala said.
“The squad is preparing and from there we will select the final two boxers who will represent Fiji in Australia. There are four boxers who are in the squad preparing for the Commonwealth Games.”
The boxers are being trained by Fiji’s head coach Pauliasi Ratu.
“We have to understand that all Pacific Island countries have improved and are improving and what the Pacific Mini Games have shown is that the host countries are always strong,” Baravilala said.
“Papua New Guinea almost made a clean sweep of all the medals in the Pacific Games in 2015 and then Vanuatu did the same in the 2017 Pacific Mini Games.
“We are looking at 2019 where we will compete in the Pacific Games in Samoa and we want to put up a good team for the competition.”
The Commonwealth Games will be held from April 4-15.
