With dreams of becoming a professional boxer shattered following a car accident, Mohammed Samir Khan did not let this hinder his love for the sport.

The Bluewater Boxing Promotions promoter proudly launched his first program in Suva yesterday.

Khan’s father, the late Mohammed Atik Khan, was a renowned boxer in the early 1960s.

Khan trained hard in the late 2000s to try and follow his father’s footsteps in the ring, but his dreams were shattered when he suffered severe neck and shoulder injuries in an accident.

Things got worse for Samir when he lost his father in 2010.

The Blue Water Inn owner from Nadi has since made long strides to be where he is today.

“I was also doing boxing training. In 2009 after getting in a vehicle accident, I left boxing and I started to promote the newcomers,” the 29-year-old promoter said.

Khan runs the Lion Heart Boxing Gym located at Wailoaloa in Nadi.

He says the aim for him now is to groom young boxers.

“We try our best that our boxers receive the best training so that they can climb up the ladder in ranks and get good fights.

“Boxing is still a developing sport in Fiji but it is good to see interest growing among fans now as some good fighters are coming up.”

The Bluewater Boxing Promotion will take place at the FMF Gymnasium in Suva on March 2, 2024.

The main bout is for the cruiserweight title of Fiji between Joseph Kwadjo and Alivereti Kauyaca.
