Bowls to name national team

THE Fiji lawn bowls team for the 2015 Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea will be announced after the final trials in Nadi this weekend.

The third trials was held at the Nadi Sports Club a week ago which attracted 13 men’s and 12 women’s players.

Bowls Fiji chairman of selectors Panapasa Matailevu said the players had shown a lot of improvement during the trials.

Matailevu said they would be gunning for gold medals in all disciplines during the Pacific Games.

“The team will be trimmed ahead of the final trials which is actually next weekend in Nadi,” he said.

“After that we will announce the final squad for the Pacific Games. The players have shown great form during the trials which has made it a hard job for the selectors to choose the final squad.

“The synthetic turf in Papua New Guinea will be the obstacle. But we intend to send a strong squad that can win medals for nation.

“We will be aiming for gold medals in all the disciplines and the players will be mentally prepared for that,” he added.

Curtis Mar will manage the men’s team at the Pacific Games while Usa Kalim will be the women’s team manager.
