THE Coca-Cola National Bowls Open Trips crowns champions at the tournament on Saturday.
Semesa Naiseruvati, Rajnesh Prasad and Kushal Pillay for the men.
While in the ladies Litia Tikoisuva, Moraiah Tela and Margaret O’Conna rule the division. Games co-ordinator Dan Lum On said this was their first national competition and defending champions Ratish Lal, Abdul Khalim and Steve Illingworth couldn’t make it due to personal reasons.
“This competition is a platform for the players to gauge themselves since this is the first national competition,” he said.
“There are a lot of new bowlers coming in and also lot of bowlers making a comeback. Everyone is just focusing on this competition and a new champion will be crowned.”
National rep Litia Tikoisuva is using the competition to gauge herself and get more game time.
She is part of a team that will take part in the World Bowls Championship in Australia but because of the pandemic, nothing has been confirmed.
“Right now there is nothing from World Bowls to tell us when that tournament will be held,” she said.
“For me since the season has just started I use this competition to sharpen my skills and learn more as we go along. It has been tough not being in an international competition but I am grateful for our local tournaments that keeps us busy.”
