Botitu stars in Castres victory

Flying Fijian utility back Vilimoni Botitu continued his exceptional form at outside centre with another commanding performance in Castres’ 36-22 victory over Jiuta Wainiqolo’s Lyon side in round 13 of the Top 14 competition over the weekend.

Botitu and Vuate Karawalevu featured for Castres, while Wainiqolo and Iosefo Masi played for Lyon.

Botitu was a dominant force throughout the match, delivering a standout performance by scoring two tries.

He made 13 carries, gained 71 metres, and registered three clean breaks. Defensively, he was impressive, completing 11 tackles with a high success rate, disrupting Lyon’s attacking rhythm.

His work around the breakdown and ability to link play effectively helped Castres maintain pressure and control during crucial moments.

Karawalevu also made a significant impact, scoring a brilliant try in the 73rd minute.

The former Drua fullback was a constant attacking threat, finishing with seven carries, covering 40 metres, and making two-line breaks.

Defensively, he contributed seven tackles, playing a key role in Castres’ resilience in a tightly contested match.

His speed and physicality added a vital edge to the Castres backline, putting Lyon’s defence under constant strain.

For Lyon, the ‘Fijian Ferrari’ Jiuta Wainiqolo continued his sublime form by scoring two excellent tries.

Iosefo Masi also featured strongly in defence, but it was not enough to prevent Castres from securing the win.
