Boost for judo

FIJI Judo Association has sent three judokas to Japan for a one month stint to prepare for the 2017 Pacific Mini Games.

The judokas are Nemani Takayawa who will be participating in the 100kg division, Shanice Takayawa in the U70kg division and Nathalyn Takayawa in the U63kg division.

Fiji Judo president Nacanieli Takayawa said a financial help from Sun Insurance Ltd helped send the trio.

“Fiji Judo is extremely grateful to Sun Insurance for this and we hope that they will support us again in the future,” he said.

“Our focus is not just on the Pacific Mini Games, but on another event which is the Tokyo Grand Slam that will be held on December 2-3 which will feature another player, Tevita Takayawa.

“We’ve been competing for decades and to have the children continue the tradition is positive step for us. In the Mini Pacific Games we will meet tough teams such as Tahiti, New Caledonia, Samoa and Nauru.”

Meanwhile, the Japan trio returns on November 30.
