Oceania and national accredited referees will officiate during the Easter Volleyball Championship which will be held in Suva this weekend.

Hosted by the Suva Volleyball Association, the three-day Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre-sponsored event will have 34 teams participating.

“We are grateful to our major sponsor the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre for supporting the championship and using sports as a platform to advocate for the elimination of all forms of violence against women and girls in our communities,” said SVA secretary Semaima Lagilagi.

“Oceania and national accredited referees will be officiating at the championship. The technical team will be led by Fiji’s first AVC and Oceania accredited female referee Akesa Delai. Delai is also the director referees for the (Suva) association.”

Lagilagi said they were looking forward to hosting the teams.

“Most of the teams are from the Central/Eastern Division.”

The top teams featuring at the championship include Wardens, Police Blue, Redline and Avengers.

In the women’s category, Police White has been preparing well and will be a hard team to beat.

“Suva Volleyball Association has a child protection policy and we will prioritise ensuring the event is safe and inclusive for everyone.

“Any form of violence directed against our technical officials during the games will not be tolerated, and this will be one of the main concerns that will be raised.”
