WHEN it comes to the best netball team in the region, they are supplied with the best to ensure that their gear matches their performance on the court.
The Fiji Pearls were given a pair of Asics Netburners valued at $400 a pair as competition footwear and five years supply of Gilbert balls by Sportsworld as the team gears up for the Pacific Games.
The total sponsorship is valued at more than $13,000. The training and match balls have been valued at $6000 annually for the next five years.
And according to Fiji Netball president Wainikiti Bogidrau the team have asked for purple footwear when they play in the competition at the Pacific Games, the New Zealand Tests and the Netball World Cup.
“Purple is the colour of our campaign, which is stopping violence against women and children. We want to portray this message when we step on to the court,” she said.
“Having the right training and competition balls can boost our preparation and also participation.”
National coach Kate Carpenter said the team was very lucky for the sponsorship.
“Top teams in the world wear this footwear and for our girls to have these as competition gear is indeed very good. It gives the girls another reason to put on a better performance,” she said.
SportsWorld general manager said they were thankful that Fiji netball had confidence in their products. The Fiji Pearls depart for Papua New Guinea in the second week of the Pacific Games.
