A NEWLY released book detailing the full 50-year history of the Fiji Navy has been formally donated to The Fiji Times, marking a significant addition to the country’s recorded military history.
Researcher Staff Sergeant Josefa Bola presented the book on behalf of his colleagues, describing it as “a pleasure to present this milestone”.
The publication is the second edition and was launched on July 25 this year to mark the Navy’s 50th anniversary.
Mr Bola acknowledged the Australian Government and other partners for supporting the project and thanked The Fiji Times for its role in preserving national stories and records.
He also highlighted the contribution of the Fiji National Archives, whose materials helped shape the book’s seven chapters and special section.
The book pays tribute to the men who served in the Fiji Navy and recognises the support of foreign naval partners, giving special mention to the Royal Australian Navy for its assistance since the Fiji Navy’s establishment in 1975.
The donation strengthens Fiji’s historical record and provides a comprehensive account of the Navy’s development over five decades.
