Bondi Beach death toll climbs to 16, shooters were father and son

Sixteen people, including a 12-year-old child, have been confirmed dead in a shooting terror attack at Sydney’s Bondi Beach.

One of the two gunmen believed to have opened fire is among those dead, after he was shot by police. The other shooter is in a critical condition. Police are looking into whether there was a third offender who was not a shooter.

Twenty-nine people have been injured – including two police officers – and treated for wounds in hospitals across Sydney.

The killings targeting Australians celebrating a Jewish Hanukkah festival, called Chanukah by the Sea, has been declared an act of terror.

One of the gunmen has been identified as Naveed Akram, the ABC reports. he was shot and taken into custody.

Australia’s Prime Minister has condemned the mass shooting, with Israeli President Isaac Herzog tonight labelling the gunmen “vile terrorists”.

NSW Premier Chris Minn said there were 42 people admitted to New South Wales’ hospitals overnight as a result of the shooting.

Minns urged people to donate blood to assist hospitals and emergency services with their efforts.

Flags will fly at half-staff across Australia today to pay respects to the fallen, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said.

The two Bondi Beach gunmen are believed to be a father and son.

According to abc, Naveed Akram, 24, remains in hospital under police guard while his 50-year-old father was shot dead in the exchange of gunfire with police on Sunday.

Fifteen innocent people were killed, with one perpetrator dead. Victims are aged between 10 and 87, according to NSW Premier Chris Minn.
