Over the Fiji Day long weekend, the Fiji Yachting Association, in partnership with the Savusavu Yacht & Sailing Club, successfully hosted the 2025 Fiji National Sailing Championships alongside a World Sailing Judges Clinic.
The three-day event brought together sailors, officials, and volunteers from across the country, combining competition with skill development to strengthen Fiji’s sailing community.
The World Sailing Judges Clinic, led by International Judge and Umpire Damien Boldyrew, was supported by the Fiji National Sports Commission, World Sailing, and the Fiji Yachting Association.
Sixteen participants from Fiji and the region took part, gaining valuable insights into international race management and officiating standards.
They later applied their learning during live races at the national championships.
The clinic produced several key outcomes, including improved officiating standards, greater consistency across clubs, and stronger regional collaboration through OSAF representation.
It also helped chart a clear pathway for future Pacific race officials.
Over two days of racing in the Optimist, Laser, and Windsurfer LT classes, 51 sailors aged 8-69 represented five clubs nationwide.
Winners were Josua Dimuri (Optimist Green Fleet), Carlie Brodie (Optimist Open), William Moffat (Laser ILCA 6/7), and Andrew Rhodes (Windsurfer LT).
The event was supported by dedicated volunteers and generous sponsors, including Fiji Tourism, Tradewinds Marine Group, and Vuda Marina.
